My background was in straight Art & Design, before opening up Photoshop Elements 5 for the first time at the tender age of 15. Ever since then, I've been constantly striving to improve my skills and help make the world prettier.
Design is my driving passion. Everything in my life is affected by it, decisions I make are based upon it. Understanding how great design works - and showing others the importance of well thought out, beautiful design - is what I get the most joy from.
Education & Experience
Towards the end of September 2007, I started my degree in New Media at the University of Leeds. I learnt so much there, and on a balmy afternoon in July 2010, after 3 years of hard work, late nights & hangovers I graduated with a BA (Hons).
In January 2009 I had a 3 month placement at Brahm (now Brass Agency) which proved invaluable. On November 04 2009 I started my job at a wonderful digital agency called Creode, and am now employed full-time as the Lead User Interface Developer.
Tools of the trade
I use Derwent Pencils, Pilot Pens & many, many Moleskines to wireframe and sketch and visualise ideas from my brain and on to paper. Next, it’s either Fireworks or Illustrator to fine tune, polish and perfect designs until I’m truly happy with them.
I passionately believe Fireworks is a much better tool for making beautiful websites than Photoshop is, and so do not use Photoshop for any web design work. I guess it’s just rather nice to use a design program without it crashing every time I want to type something.
About This Website
This website runs on WordPress, coded by hand. It uses HTML5 and CSS3 technologies with a sprinkling of jQuery here and there. Media queries play a pretty big role as well, with four different layouts depending on browser size (Desktop, Laptop, Notebook & Mobile).
I'm serving up Futura Bold, Skolar Regular/Bold & Adelle Regular/Bold through Typekit. It's hosted by the wonderful folks at Media Temple. But most importantly, none of this would have been possible without the excellent beers of the Brooklyn Brewery.
